Things To Stock for Newborns During Lockdown

Things To Stock for Newborns During Lockdown
28 June, 2021

When you have an infant in your house, you can not ignore his/her needs in any way. There is something or the other that they will need all the time, other than continuous attention from your end for sure. Raising a little one is not an easy task in normal circumstances and now we have the covid-19 virus outbreak to add to your stress. And as for now, amidst the COVID-19 situation, we suggest you stock up certain baby essentials to avoid last-minute panic situations. As the 2nd wave was affecting children/young ones more, moving out often to buy baby essentials for you as a parent is a risk factor.

It is therefore recommended to collect some of the items that your kids require daily well in advance. List below:

1. Baby Food or Formula:

Although babies below the age of six months are recommended only breastmilk, in case it does not suffice, one can also give formula milk in addition to the breastmilk after talking to your pediatrician. if your baby is 6 months + of age, keep stock for two to three weeks formula to avoid often trips to the market. However, the formula milk you choose to buy should be bought in tandem with your baby’s pediatrician. Also, keep a close eye on the expiry date before stocking up the milk for your baby. If your baby has started a solid diet, you can stock some baby cereal too.

2. Milk Feeding Bottles:

This point is very important especially if your baby takes milk through feeding bottles. We reckon you keep a stock of two to three of them well in advance. When you have a good stock of bottles, you can allow the already used bottle to air dry completely before the next use. You can use them alternatively as and when required. Also, while selecting baby feeding bottles, make sure that they are BPA-free and anti-colic. Additionally, you must keep stock of bibs to avoid the spoiling of baby clothes.

3. Newborn Clothes:

Though you can shop online for soft cotton baby clothes, we do recommend you still have enough infant wear in stock. From Mittens and booties to caps, from jablas to leggings, Towels to footwear there should be nothing less at any point in time. This is because you will often change your baby’s clothes, disinfect them, allow them to dry up completely before repeated wear, this is time-consuming for sure. Ideally having 5-6 pairs of each is a good idea.

4. Diapers:

You can never have enough diapers when you have a newborn in the house. Keeping a stock for 3-4 months is advisable during this pandemic emergency situation when anything can go out of stock in the market. You can barely stop your infant from spoiling their baby diaper, the least you can do is have enough of them in stock to last you months. You can stock up disposable diapers, cloth diapers, and even diaper pants for changing them as per the requirement.

5. Rash Creams:

Due to the continuous use of diapers, you will need to apply an anti-rash cream prescribed by your pediatrician to avoid those red bruises on your soft baby’s skin. As the rains subside there will be winter bells making your baby’s skin even drier and hence ignoring the need for rash cream or a moisturizing cream is not a good idea. If you think your baby has sensitive skin, ask your doctor to suggest an effective rash cream for your baby to avoid irritation. You can also switch to breathable baby clothes like soft cotton Newborn leggings to avoid any harmful effects on the soft skin of the babies.

6. Basic Baby Medicines:

Babies are born with usually less immunity and sudden temperature changes lead to various viral infections. Keeping a stock of some of the generic medicines is a great idea Like a fever, cold-cough, acidity, Stomach infection (Especially if your baby has recently started eating over and above breastfeeding), etc. Check with your pediatrician for suggestions regarding the medicines to be stocked. And likewise, get them home to avoid any problems during this social distancing period.

Putting it in a nutshell:

Though you’re not taking your kids outdoor to be exposed to this harmful virus covid, you still are prone to attract it if you often move out to crowded places like markets, shopping malls, chemist shops, etc. Hence, a well-planned stock-up plan shall not only keep you away from the virus but keep your little one at home safe. Lastly, we recommend you keep handy emergency numbers of Covid Helplines, General Physicians, Paediatrician, Nearby Medical Shops and Immediate Family Members Contact Numbers.
