The modern dad: Setting new trends in fatherhood

The modern dad: Setting new trends in fatherhood
6 July, 2021

The word “Fatherhood” today has a whole new meaning. A Fathers contribution has become equally important as a mother in today’s changing times. Mother is said to physically ensure the child’s well-being, but a father is responsible for the baby’s mental development.

Research says a father is not only responsible for the generation of disciplinary skills but also shapes a child’s thought process. Below are some responsibilities today's fathers are delightedly taking up.

1. Shopping for the child online: Traditionally the mother was the whole and soul one around the baby for all the initial requirements of a newborn. With the spurt of Newborn essential clothing being available online fathers are willingly shopping for their little one at their convenience. From diapers to infant clothes and footwear everything can reach you in just a few clicks at the comfort of your home. This trend has made today’s fathers feel more involved and responsible for their little ones’ upbringing.

2. Increased father-child playtime: Earlier a father was expected to fulfill the monetary needs of the family. Now the times are changing where the father is willingly taking up more chores on this plate. He is ensuring enough emotional bonding with his child with ample and joyous playtime. With the covid scenario, a father is not recommended to venture out of home for playtime with the baby, hence he is successfully building the environment at home. He is making play items like toys, puzzles, soft toys, etc available at home for the child’s entertainment.

3. Mom & dad take mutual decisions for the child: Be it which school to enroll the little one in or something as casual as which outfit to wear for a family function. In today’s world of parenting the mother and the father equally contribute to a decision taken for the child. The modern father gets involved in decisions that were initially left to the mother to figure out. E.g: Which brand of baby products to use for the baby or which book you could read out at bedtime.

4. Dad joins every doctor visit with mum and baby: In olden times an elderly person from the family would join the mother and the child for such regular doctor visits. Most gynecologists and pediatricians are currently sharing their pleasant experience of seeing both mother and father come with the baby for every visit. This makes the father more involved from the very nascent stage in not only decisions of pregnancy and delivery but also post-delivery decisions.

5. The modern Dad is no shyer to share home responsibilities: The mother is now sharing monetary responsibilities towards the family by educating herself well and working to earn that extra buck. Similarly, a modern father is voluntarily giving a helping hand in homely infant-related chores. E.g: heating milk for the child, bathing the child, making him/her wear clothes post a bath, strolling in the building for a walk and also changing diapers. This nurtures the baby-daddy emotional relationship from the very nascent stage of baby growth making the baby feel very warm with the father.

Anyone can father a child, but being a dad takes a lifetime. Fathers today play a role in every child’s life that cannot be filled by others. This role can have a large impact on a child and help shape him or her into the person they finally become.

KUDOS DADDY, YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB.
